Creative Chrome Summary
❓How Might We
How might we help office workers break out of rigid thinking and find their creative mojo?
🎨 Solution
Creative Chrome places creativity games and exercises straight into your browser, ready for you to play every time you open a new tab. A chrome extension for you to draw, doodle, stare out into outer space, play word games and invent.
I was project lead for this small digital experiment idea we had when two new developers joined the UNSW Future Minds Lab. We wanted a short project, that could be used in corporate workshops to support learning.
Creative Chrome Behind The Scenes
Process
Ideation →After an initial brainstorm, two projects were chosen; creative chrome, and unpredictable text (an interactive machine learning x creativity game). Creative chrome was the leaner of the two, and chosen to undertake first.
Research →The project kicked off with desktop research, searching for creativity exercises used across industry and academic research. All of the exercises were inspired by paper based creativity games often used in workshopping- some of which translated into digital very nicely, and others which we still favour in paper/pen form.
Prototype →After I’d selected 15 to prototype, I wrote specs for each exercise for the developers. From the 15, we chose 10 together which were the most a) commonly used b) achievable to build and c) fun to play.
User Experience Design→Once chosen, I began UX design for the website: briefing the UI designer and developing wireframes. Finally it was onto copywriting and UX testing before launch.
